LAB

Step 1: Watch Drum Arrangements Made Simple and learn how to create a simple groove and fill-ins.

Step 2: Learn how to Arranging Drums in Hookpad

Step 3: (Optional) Explore Advanced Drum Arrangements in Hookpad.

How was this activity? Write a reflection on what you did and learned.

I learned that you can make a rhythm and have it play through the whole song but still have changing notes and sounding good.

PRACTICE ROOM

Find a Funklet beat you like.

Playing along on Funklet went well. I had a good time eliminating beats and playing on other beats that were a little more complex for me to play along with.

OUTSIDE / JOURNAL / IDEAS

Flip through the Quizlet on Rhythm Terminology flashcards a couple times.

Image Metric levels from the Wikimedia Commons

After playing with Quizlet, go for a walk and think about the rhythm of your steps.  How many beats per minute is your walk/pace/cadence? What is the tempo of some of your favorite songs?  How many beats per minute is your favorite tempo?

My walking tempo is about 102 bpm.

STUDIO

Funklet is back!  This time in the studio. Pick a drummer, like Clyde Stubblefield. Play around with their a beat with Funklet’s editing options. Play a rhythmic guitar strumming pattern over the beat. Practice playing in time with the beat. Try muting the strings and keeping tempo, chucka-chucka style. Watch this chucka-chucka tutorial, to better understand the technique.

CONTROL ROOM

Funklet is back, AGAIN!  This time in the control room.

Pick a drummer.

Export the MIDI file.

Import it into Soundtrap.

Record a rhythmic guitar strumming pattern over the beat.

Watch Mr. Le Duc’s Tutorial for Exporting and Importing MIDI Files with Funklet, HookLab, and Soundtrap, if you get stuck with any of these steps.

I learned that rhythm can sometimes be implied, but it is never thrown away. I had a hard time finding my beats per minute, but I eventually was able to find it.

School of Rock- Day 4- Harmony

School of Rock – Day 4 – Harmony Basics

SUMMARY

Knowing what harmony is and that is a very early kind of music. Quizlet flashcards are helpfull to get to know th different notes and where they are located on the music staff.

CLASSROOM

-harmony is a more mystical side of music

-harmony can seem to bee beyond our everyday experiance of music

-harmony is one of the earliest types of music

LAB

the activity was good. I wrote some chords. It was pretty straight forward on what I had to do.

PRACTICE ROOM

These exersizes are working very good, I am so close to memorizing the notes on the frets. I am slowly getting better at getting to know these note names.

OUTSIDE / JOURNAL / IDEAS

Mr. Le Duc’s Key of C Major Notes and Chords Chart (PDF)

STUDIO

Watch this informative video by Jake Lizzio. Experiment with notes on your guitar and try playing along with him. If you cannot do this play just the C note or chord every time he plays it.

I couldn’t play anything much along with Jake Lizzio. I am still very much learning how to play the guitar, it is very new to me.

CONTROL ROOM

Tune your guitar. Try recording two tracks of guitar.  One with the single notes like Jake Lizzio showed you above and a second with the lower C bass notes to make a simple progression. Remember two notes playing at the same time is harmonyKeep it simple.  Refer to your Quizlet Guitar Strings / Notes Flashcards if you need help remembering the guitar notes on the first three frets. Set a timer. Stop playing before you feel like Chewbacca below.

the proccess of switching between different instruments is great. It is lots of fun to play with them without physically learning a whole new instrument. when recording if you mess up you can go back and edit your notes which is amazing, so instead of replaying the whole song you want to play, you just can go back and make the note longer or shorter. This was really good.

School or Rock – Day 2 – Basics and Foundations

SUMMARY

Write your daily summary last, at the end of the day here… Only one to two sentences.

I watched a video on music theory, he explains the topic very good. I also hooked up the guitar and found a song

CLASSROOM

-Music theory is the language behind music

-Pop tunes use 12 notes

-12 notes up or down the scale is an octave

-The name of the scale is the same note at the end and the begining

-Chords are usually played in the same key

-1 3 5 and A to B to C is a chord because it is spaced by 3 whole steps

-There is 2 chord types, major and minor

-Major is 4-3 half steps and minor is 3-4 half steps between each note

Example of Major: A-C-Eb

Example of Minor: A#-C-E

-Inversion chords are the chord name but at the end or in the middle of the chord

LAB

I looked at Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen and it was in Bb(flat).

PRACTICE ROOM

This process went very well with connecting the guitar to Soundtrap. I didn’t run into any problems.

JOURNAL

I took a walk and thoght about what I should try to play on the gutar, since I am very new to the insrument.

I learned that music theory is the language behind music. I hooked up the guitar to soundtrap, that went very good. I was able to complete the expert training course on Soundtrap and connected the guitar to my chromebook. It was very cool having a recording of what I played and then going back and editing it. this second day went very smooth.

School of Rock- Day 1- Tools, Safety, and Silence

School of Rock – Day 1 – Slience, Safety, Tools, and Goals

SUMMARY

Write your daily summary last, at the end of the day here…

I learned that if you listen to loud noises for a long time you will lose your hearing. Soundtrap is a really cool way of composing and making songs and music, with the ability to collaborate with people in real time, with chats and live video chats.

Safety

Watch 3-minute video preview: https://www.hrmvideo.com/catalog/listen-smart-safely-handling-the-power-of-sound

Copy and paste the notes below and add details that you found interesting…

  • 2 causes ot hear loss, natural and noise induced. natural causes are… blocked ear canal, infection of the inner ear, arthritis of the ear, head injures, and brain damage. noise induced hearing loss is not curable. like a gun shot can cause people who shoot guns to have hearing loss in one ear
  • when ears hear sound, the brain detects it as sound.
  • overexposition to loud sounds, the ear cells will become overstimulated. when they are overstimulated the ears become paralyzed and stop responding to sound
  • ear cells will recover, but if you keep listeningt to loud noises for a long period of time you will lose ear cells, and your hearing will be lost
  • Goal: listen to music in a way that it will enrich but not harm you
  • 10%-20% of high schoolers have hearing damage
  • Hearing damage can happen in one occasion, doesn’t have to be constant
  • No cure!
  • Temporary Threshold Shift: “hearing hangover”
  • Wearing earplugs doesn’t change the quality of sound but just the volume
  • High-frequency loss is most commons with musicians
  • Distancing yourself from the source and earplugs are the best way to prevent hearing loss
  • Stimulants while listening to music can increase the risk of hearing damage
  • Resting your ears is important, space out concerts
  • 70 dB, no risk
  • 85 dB, risk after 8 hours
  • 91dB, 2 hours without damage
  • 100 dB, 15 minutes without damage
  • 115 dB, 1 minute without damage
  • 140 dB, immediate damage and pain
  • Symptoms of damage, tinnitus, muffled hearing, and other mental and physical problems like irritability, depression, high blood pressure, and fatigue
  • damage is done when the cochlea hair cells in the inner ear are damaged, they do not grow back. These are what interpret vibrations and turn them into what we hear

Advice

LAB

I learned that the top part of the lab is the notes. you press the spacebar to play the music in the playbank. you can type in lyrics on teh right side. you can choose a band style on the very bottom of Hookpad.

I learned that HookPad uses colored blocks as sound for each note, even in different keys. you can change the key of the playback. you can also change into different modes.

and explore some songs at https://www.hooktheory.com/theorytab

PRACTICE ROOM

I would like to learn Twinkle Twinkle Little Star by the end of the day.

Guitar Tabs Explained

  • you have to figure out where to place your fingers on the frets
  • if there is a zero on the string, it means to leave the string open
  • listen to the song that you are learning

JOURNAL

you can look at themes for your blog under appearances. you can also do a live preview for it. General settings you can change your title of your blog.

I learned that HookPad uses colored blocks as sound for each note. Plus you can also change to different modes. I really liked how clearly the Sountrap expert course was, I was able to listen and understand everything with no problem. I also took the Sountrap expert test session and there is so much that you can do on there. Like play with different instrument by using the computer keyboard. You can also collaborate with people anywhere around the world by doing a chat or a video chat. I had no major prablems but when I took a screenshot of the certificate for finishing the expert training course I couldn’t find a way of cropping the image on the chromebook I was useing. So I sent an email to my iPhone and cropped it on there and then sent it back and I fixed my problem. After that, every task went very smoothly and I suprisingly had no tech problems.
